Research on emojis in email headlines

This article from the Nielson Norman group has some very interesting research regarding emojis in email headlines.

The conclusion seems to be kinda inconclusive, which is not very helpful. But I think the summary is that if the emojis add value/content to the headline it can be helpful, but if not, it’s good without an emoji.

I love receiving emoji-subject-lined emails and I always try to do it. I feel like it’s such a good way to capture attention visually, especially if the emoji is unique or funny.
