I started my site in 2014 with my mom, and we focus on from-scratch cooking and baking. It’s a pretty broad niche, but when we started out, we had no idea what we were doing or the benefits of niching down. We just thought it would be a fun mother/daughter hobby and never imagined it would blossom into the site it is today.
It’s no understatement to say we had no idea what we were doing. The more I learn, the more I realize we did many things wrong. I have a lot of things that need to be fixed on the blog, but the site continues to grow while I SLOWLY work on all the fixes. Hopefully, that little tidbit encourages those who feel overwhelmed to take action instead of waiting until everything is ‘perfect.’
Fun fact:
I worked full-time as a cardiac nurse until the end of 2022.
How fun to have a food blog with your mom! I read your About page and it seems like both of you have quite a lot of cooking and baking experience, which is great. And how cool that you have several family members with food blogs too!
I think most people who start out have no idea what they are doing - I certainly didn’t! But we all learn and grow as we go. And this community certainly helps with that!
I love that you launched the blog as a way to connect with your mom. I bet you’ve made a ton of great memories together in the kitchen. Look forward to following you!
Welcome @dahn ! Welcome to the club of doing-things-wrong and learning along the way. You’re in good company (with me, anyway!). I hope you feel welcome here!
ps. I love cardiac nurses… they are the BEST!
