I’ve been photographing my own recipes for about 4 years, but I’m looking into adding another income revenue with food photography. I will love to photograph for other food bloggers and eventually brands, but I don’t know how or where to begin.
If you have any experience in this or any tips you’ll love to pass on, please, please let me know!
I have photographed for both other food bloggers and a couple brands. I started out by offering my services to a couple of people at a reduced rate to get some experience under my belt and gather a few client testimonials.
I also kept an eye out in forums to see when someone posted about needing help with photography and would reach out to them directly to offer my services. Sometimes it would work out, but not always.
I did have several food bloggers who I worked with longer term. In those cases I was connected to them via personal contacts - either through a blogging coach, a mastermind group, or blogging friends of friends. For me, as my network grew so did my ability to find work.
As for brands, I typically found work with them by connecting in person at festivals or conferences. I realize that’s not terribly helpful, but I wanted to mention it.
I would start by making anyone and everyone you know in the blogging world aware that you want to freelance - for bloggers or brands. And keep tabs on any forums you frequent as well to see if anyone is in need of photography services.
